HALIFAX The joint federal-provincial inquiry into the April 2020 tragedy in Nova Scotia made its first public presentation Thursday, and announced who will be participating in its proceedings. The Mass Casualty Commission is tasked with examining the events leading up to and including April 18 and 19, during which a gunman killed 22 people in over a 13-hour rampage throughout a number of Nova Scotia communities. In March, the Commission issued a call for applications from individuals and groups with direct interest in the subjects being examined by the inquiry. In a news release, the Commission says it received 60 applications for participation. In Thursday s virtual announcement, it released the names of individuals and organizations that will be part of the proceedings. ....

Without knowing where their son is, Dylan Ehler s parents did what they know he would love to do launch little dissolvable boats marked with messages of hope and love, one year after he disappeared. It s tough. It s sad to put a boat out in memory of a child, Jason Ehler said. It was a special day for him, but a sad day. His son, three-year-old Dylan Ehler, was last seen by the toddler s grandmother Dorothy Parsons in her backyard in Truro. For the first time, she spoke with CTV News. I went to tie the dog on her lead and I turn around and Dylan is just gone. Gone. I have no explanation, Dorothy Parsons said, adding she believes it all happened within 18 to 20 seconds. ....
KITCHENER Like many annual events, the in-person activities of Guelph’s popular Hillside Festival have been cancelled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19. The three-day festival was set to take place in late July at Guelph Lake Island, but will instead be pushed back once again to next summer. In a statement, festival organizers say that, due to the current stay-at-home order, they anticipate some form of restrictions to public gatherings for the rest of the summer. Tickets already purchased will be valid for next year or can be returned for a refund. Ticket sales subsidize absolutely everything, said Marie Zimmerman, Hillside Festival executive director. HALIFAX A Nova Scotia court has used cyberbullying laws to order Google to provide information about who is behind a blog and a YouTube channel that a couple says have been the source of harassment and insults. The couple, Sakura Saunders and Darius Mirshahi, say in affidavits filed before Nova Scotia Supreme Court in January that a blog using the name Antifa exposed falsely alleges the two are involved in movements that are terrorist organizations. Saunders, who identifies herself as a social justice activist and writer, says in her affidavit that a YouTube channel and the blog are filled with false conspiracy theories and is written in a hateful tone that incorrectly suggests she is violent. ....
