The Taiwan High Court on Wednesday acquitted former CTBC Financial Holding Co vice chairman Jeffrey Koo Jr (辜仲諒), reversing guilty decisions in the first and second rulings.
Former Chinatrust Financial chief financial officer Perry Chang (張明田) and former CTBC Bank chief financial manager Lin Hsiang-hsi (林祥曦) were also acquitted of charges related to the Red Fire Development Co financial scandal, a case that has dragged on for 15 years.
The ruling can still be appealed, although the High Prosecutors’ Office said that a decision would be made after it reviews the latest ruling and court documents. ....

Tainan, Feb. 24 (CNA) The Tainan branch of the Taiwan High Court on Wednesday overturned a lower court s acquittal of a man charged with homicide for stabbing a railway policeman who bled to death by sentencing him to 17 years in jail.
The court announced its verdict via video conference, and the defendant, a man in his mid-50s identified by his family name Cheng (鄭), showed no emotion when he heard his fate. ....

Kaohsiung, Jan. 28 (CNA) The Taiwan High Court on Thursday upheld a sentence of life imprisonment handed down to a Filipino fisherman who went on a murderous rampage on board a Taiwanese fishing vessel in 2019 that led to the deaths of eight crew members.
Aurelio Arafiles Fronda was convicted of cases of homicide, attempted murder and abandonment of a body by the Pingtung District Court last September, a ruling he subsequently appealed.
The incident took place on board the Taiwanese longliner Wen Peng (穩鵬號) when it was operating in the Indian Ocean near Mauritius in February 2019. ....

Taipei, Jan. 26 (CNA) The Taiwan High Court on Tuesday upheld a lower court s not-guilty ruling in an insider trading case involving OBI Pharma Chairman Michael Chang (張念慈) and four other company executives.
The high court upheld the Shilin District Court s ruling in June 2019 that there was insufficient evidence showing that Chang, general manager Amy Huang (黃秀美), former vice chair Hsu Yo-gung (許友恭), research and development director Yu Cheng-te (游丞德) and administration division manager Liao Tsung-chih (廖宗智) committed insider trading. ....
