FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas got its first taste of 11v11 action this preseason with an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday morning at Toyota Soccer Center.
Dallas preseason roster was split into two teams and played two 30-minute halves. The first chance of the game was created by
Eddie Munjoma who burst into the box and struck the post with a left-footed shot. Franco Jara latched onto the rebound but his effort was cleared off the line by
Johnny Nelson sweeping up. At the other end, Thomas Roberts forced a save from Kyle Zobeck who was quick to get up to smother
Kalil ElMedkhar who joins Dallas after playing four seasons with the University of Kentucky.
A product of the Philadelphia Union academy system, FCD traded for El Medkhar’s Homegrown rights for an initial $50,00 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and signed him to a two-year contract. El Medkhar – who impressed FCD coaches at a college combine late last year – was originally slated to enter the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. Worried that he’d be off the board by the time FCD’s 15th overall pick came up, Dallas’ staff decided to initiate the trade with Philly beforehand to make sure they got their man.
