Port Orange City Councilman Chase Tramont is running for the Volusia County Council District 2 seat that will be up for re-election next year. And Billie Wheeler, who has held that post since she took it over in January 2017, has decided not to seek re-election in 2022. Both Tramont and Wheeler went public with their decisions Friday afternoon on separate local radio talk shows. The accident occurred at 10:40 p.m. at Tomoka Farms Road and Town West Boulevard, according to the FHP. The 51-year-old man was driving a sedan northbound on Tomoka Farms Road. For unknown reasons, the man drove off the road and then overcorrected, crossing the road and hitting a power pole, said FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes. The driver was killed at the scene and a passenger, a 17-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Montes said.
