Courtesy of Gail Strom Last January, a crash involving members of the Holy Cross women’s rowing team left Hannah Strom of Marion with severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and hearing loss. Now, less than a year later, Strom is not only back on her feet and preparing to head back to school, she also completed a one-mile run surrounded by those who helped her get to where she is today. Strom completed her run over the weekend; a video from WCVB shows her being cheered on by members of the community. Some of her physical therapists, as well as coaches, ran alongside her. ....

Some said it’s a miracle Strom has made it as far as she has. The January 2020 crash her Holy Cross rowing team was involved in killed teammate Grace Rhett and left Strom with a broken femur and pelvis, a partially collapsed lung and a brain bleed. She was placed into a medically-induced coma after the crash and spent 100 days at Spaulding Rehab. “When I met her, she wasn’t talking, walking, standing or even getting out of bed,” physical therapist Abigail Spaulding said. Less than a year later, Hannah Strom completed her run. At the finish line, a puppy for Christmas was waiting for her. ....
