A 35-year-old man who is accused of killing his wife and another woman and stabbing a dog in a Dorchester apartment over the weekend was ordered held without bail on Monday, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office.
Marcus Chavis was arraigned in the Dorchester Division of the Boston Municipal Court on Monday on two counts of murder and one count of animal cruelty in connection with the killing of 28-year-old Fatima Yasin and 42-year-old Jahaira DeAlto, authorities said.
Authorities say Chavis called 911 shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to report that he had stabbed his wife. Officers arrived at a Taft Street building, where Chavis, Yasin, DeAlto and two children lived, police said. ....

Gov. Charlie Baker picked two more prospective clerk magistrates Wednesday, making a total of four nominees currently in the pipeline for lifetime postings at Massachusetts courthouses.
Baker tapped Hingham District Court Assistant Clerk Magistrate Paul Fullam for promotion to Hingham clerk magistrate, and Worcester Superior Court Assistant Clerk Magistrate Courtney Price for clerk magistrate of the Leominster District Court.
Fullam took his current job in 2013 after six years as assistant clerk magistrate in the Dorchester and Roxbury divisions of the Boston Municipal Court. He was a probation officer in the Dorchester Division from 2000 to 2007 and a Suffolk County correction officer in the 1990s. ....

A Marlboro-based group is supplying all fire stations and hospitals near the Lower Mills section of Dorchester with bright yellow signs identifying them as “baby safe havens” one week after a newborn was found alive there in a trash can.
“Because I’m a young woman and sympathize with other young women who are struggling, I want them to have access to information to make the right decision in a case like this,” said Mackenzie Lee Clement, 19, of Woburn, a spokeswoman for Baby Safe Haven New England. “If I was in a crisis, I would want someone to do the same for me.” ....

The woman accused of leaving a newborn baby in a trash barrel in Boston shortly after giving birth last week was arraigned Monday on charges of attempted murder and reckless endangerment of a child , authorities said.
The newborn was safe and recovering Monday as Marie Merisier was arraigned in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court. Her bail was set at $100,000, and she was ordered to stay away from and have no contact with the baby and any witnesses, remain under home confinement and submit to GPS monitoring if she’s released on bail, according to Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office. ....
