A new father is disgusted over the lack of communication from Dunedin City Council after the water supply in his town of Waikouaiti has been found to be contaminated with lead.

Elevated lead levels in Waikouaiti were reported as early as August last year after testing at the Waikouaiti Golf Club. But, this was determined as being a “one-off spike” after consultation and subsequent testing, RNZ reported.
Lead levels for the next 14 weeks were below acceptable limits. But in October there was another high result in the same location, and again in December. Testing at Karitāne Bowls Club also returned a ....

Blood tests will be offered to Otago residents who drank water from lead-contaminated supplies as authorities scramble to contain a debacle.
The free tests next week are expected to help officials work out whether the Waikouaiti and Karitāne communities north of Dunedin have experienced chronic exposure to lead. ....

Residents in two coastal Otago towns are preparing to confront local authorities about toxic levels of lead discovered in their drinking water.
People in Waikouaiti and Karitane were first told about high levels of lead in their water supply on Tuesday afternoon.
But there s been revelation upon revelation since then - the Dunedin City Council has confirmed the December test results sat in an unmonitored inbox for weeks, toxic levels were first detected in the water back in August, and one of the failed test results wasn t four times the allowable levels - it was almost 40 times. ....
