City Beer Board Hears Its First Noise Complaints; Bar Gets 3-Day Beer License Suspension

As mixed use of residential and commercial spaces becomes more prevalent in Chattanooga, problems with noise have also been increasing. A complaint about noise coming from a bar in an apartment building at 100 Market St. was heard at the Chattanooga Beer Board meeting on Thursday. This is the first time a dispute regarding noise has been brought to the board.
 
Assistant City Attorney Melinda Foster said there were two issues to decide.
First the board had to determine that there was a violation of the beer code, and if so, what the penalty would be. ....

Pickle Barrel Gets 1-Day Suspension For Waitress Drinking On The Job

City Beer Board members on Thursday heard testimony about a stabbing and a waitress who was drinking on the job.
At 2 a.m. on Jan. 16, police responded to a call reporting a stabbing at the Pickle Barrel Restaurant, 1012 Market St. While interviewing server Kayleigh Gonelli about the incident, Chattanooga Police Officer Marvin Perez said that she appeared to be intoxicated. He noticed that her eyes looked glassy, and blood shot, she had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
When a breathalyzer test was done, she registered .073. That number should have been zero, he said. The beer ordinance specifies that no employee of a restaurant or bar can consume alcohol or be intoxicated on the premises of the business. Owner of the business, Ben Bowers, said that he does not allow an employee to drink on or off the clock. Mr. Bowers was not ....

Chattanooga Police Officer and Wrecker Inspector John Collins on Thursday morning brought a violation to the City Beer Board serving as the Wrecker Board. It was against Gudel’s Wrecker Service, 6403 Middle Valley Road.
 
Officer Collins said each month he receives a fault/no fault list from the police dispatchers regarding who is responsible for tows that have been missed on the city’s rotation call list.
After noticing a pattern of missed responses to calls from Gudel’s, Officer Collins brought it to the attention of the Wrecker Board. ....

New Online Permitting Process Should Streamline Beer Board Meetings

Chattanooga has just implemented a new online system for business owners to apply for a permit to sell  beer. The new application process is welcomed by the nine members of the Chattanooga Beer Board who volunteer their time. Many lengthy meetings take place with few beer license applications being approved due to the business owners not having all the required inspections or documentation that is required by the city.
