City Beer Board Hears Its First Noise Complaints; Bar Gets 3-Day Beer License Suspension

As mixed use of residential and commercial spaces becomes more prevalent in Chattanooga, problems with noise have also been increasing. A complaint about noise coming from a bar in an apartment building at 100 Market St. was heard at the Chattanooga Beer Board meeting on Thursday. This is the first time a dispute regarding noise has been brought to the board.
 
Assistant City Attorney Melinda Foster said there were two issues to decide.
First the board had to determine that there was a violation of the beer code, and if so, what the penalty would be. ....

Beer Board Says Some Fines Still Unpaid

The Chattanooga Beer Board on Thursday discussed the status of fines that have been issued for recent violations. The Chattanooga Billiards Club paid a fine of $1,000 for failure to report an altercation at the business when it occurred. Dr. Elenora Woods/Piney Woods Development Center has not paid a fine of $50 for failure to get a special gathering permit for an event that was held in February. Tim Chatman and Courtney McGee also have an unpaid fine of $50 for not obtaining a special gathering permit at The Kutt.
 
Bertha Lawrence, administrator for the beer board said those in violation had been sent certified letters about the fines that are overdue. ....

New Majority Owner Of Exile Bar Defends Its Reputation

An ownership change triggers the need for a new beer license from the city of Chattanooga. In the one and a half years it has been open, ownership continues to change at Exile off Main Street, the small bar at 1634 Rossville Ave. It was opened in the fall of 2019 by Brian Hennen and Martin Bohannon. Mr. Hennen’s share was sold to Ryan Rothermel in the summer of 2020 and ownership has since changed again. Mr. Bohannon has left and now Mr. Rothermel owns 87.5 percent of the business, while Rashelle McKee owns 12.5 percent. ....

Mayor Candidate Gets Adverse Ruling At City Beer Board

In the effort to reduce violence that had been occurring in and around event halls, Chattanooga passed amendments to the city code several years ago. A special gathering, which is usually advertised on social media and on flyers, is defined as an event that meets four conditions: It lasts until after midnight, a fee is charged for admission, beer or alcohol is allowed and the location has an occupancy of more than 50 people.
 
Two violations involving special gathering permits were heard at the City Beer Board meeting on Thursday. ....
