BAGHDAD: A drone packed with explosives hit an Iraqi base housing US troops early on Saturday causing damage but no casualties, the Iraqi military and the US-led coalition said.
The attack on the Ain Al-Asad air base was the fourth targeting US troops in Iraq in less than a week, as an armed campaign blamed on pro-Iranian groups intensifies.
Each attack. undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi national sovereignty, said coalition spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto. No injuries reported. A hangar was damaged, he said in a tweet. It was only the second time authorities publicly confirmed a drone had been used in an attack on a target inside Iraq. In April, a drone packed with explosives hit the coalition’s Iraq headquarters in the military part of the airport in the Kurdish regional capital Arbil. ....

Aiming at providing last-mile healthcare access as a faster mode, the government has allowed drone service for vaccine delivery on an experimental basis.
As part of the constant endeavour to enhance the scope of drone usage in the country and assist the nation to fight COVID-19 pandemic, the government is providing a conditional exemption for experimental drone flights for vaccine delivery.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation have granted a conditional exemption to the Telangana government for conducting experimental Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights for delivery of vaccines. ....

The government signalled that it is looking to use drones in its battle against the raging Covid-19 pandemic by granting two exemptions to conduct experimental drone deliveries of vaccines. However, actual deliveries to citizens are some time away.
“This is an experiment in a defined airspace and not actual delivery (of vaccines) to citizens. Actual vaccine delivery is at least a year away,” said a senior government official. “It may not be prudent to rush this through considering the risks to public safety, national security and privacy.”
The official added that Covid-19 vaccine deliveries would become possible only after conducting long-range drone experiments, analysing the test results, introducing draft guidelines, inviting public feedback and introducing legislation. ....
