Budget 2021: Government Rationalised Base Customs Duty On Gold, Silver From 12.5% To 7.5%; Should You Buy?

Presently, gold and silver attract a basic customs duty of 12.5 per cent.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented Budget 2021 on February 1 in the Parliament and announced that the government has decided to rationalise the custom duty on gold and silver in order to bring prices closer to previous levels. Gold and silver presently attract a basic customs duty of 12.5 per cent. Since the duty was raised from 10 per cent in July 2019, the prices of precious metals rose sharply. As part of Budget 2021, the base custom duty on gold and silver have been cut from 12.5 per cent to 7.5 per cent. Since the beginning of 2021, gold rates have been volatile after it hit a record high of Rs 56,196 per 10 grams in August last year. ....

Gold Price Today At Rs 49,125 Per 10 Gram, Silver Rate At Rs 66,699 Per Kilogram 21 January 2021

Gold Rates Today: Domestic spot gold closed at Rs 49,659 per 10 grams on Thursday
Gold Price in India: In the national capital, spot gold rates jumped Rs 575 to Rs 49,125 per 10 gm amid a firm global market trend, according to HDFC Securities. Silver prices were up by Rs 1,227 to Rs 66,699 per kg, as compared to the previous close of Rs 65,472. Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) gold futures, due for a February 5 delivery, were last seen trading higher by 0.12 per cent - at Rs 49,595.00, having swung between Rs 49,555 and Rs 49,765 during the session compared to their previous close of Rs 49,534. Gold Rates Today: Domestic spot gold closed at Rs 49,327per 10 grams
Gold Price in India: Domestic gold futures registered a highly volatile trading session on Friday, January 15, as the prices witnessed a steep decline post-mid-session gains, diving below Rs 49,000 level. Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) gold futures, due for a February 5 delivery, were last seen trading lower by 1.12 per cent - at Rs 48,668, having swung between Rs 48,544 and Rs 49,327 during the session compared to their previous close of Rs 49,221. Silver futures for a March 5 delivery were trading lower by 3.42 per cent at Rs 64,400. (Also Read: Is Silver The New Gold?)
