A $200 million desalination plant at Belmont is one step closer to reality after the state government granted the project planning approval.
The proposed facility will be built next to the Belmont Wastewater Treatment Works at Nine Mile Beach, and when completed will have the capacity to produce up to 30 million litres per day of fresh drinking water.
The plant will help shore up water supply for the region, giving Hunter Water an additional source of safe and reliable drinking water during periods of low rainfall and severe drought. ....

Watering the lawn will be suspended in Ankeny starting Monday night until further notice as crews with the city and Des Moines Water Works make an emergency repair on a water main leak.
The water main leak forced the city to move to Stage 3 of its Water Conservation Plan, which requires a mandatory suspension of all lawn irrigation.
A release from Ankeny says the city and DMWW crews need to make an emergency repair to one of three feeder water mains providing service to the City of Ankeny. ....

Ministers Foley and Ryan launch â¬14 million 2021 Schools Energy Retrofit Pathfinder Programme

Minister for Education Norma Foley TD and Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan TD today (Monday 26 April) launched a â¬14 million Pathfinder programme, that will demonstrate the approach to deep retrofit in the schoolsâ sector, testing energy efficiency solutions and renewable heat technology.
This government-funded energy retrofit Pathfinder programme will target energy use and CO2 emission reduction by 50%, testing deep retrofit and low carbon heating solutions. The 2021 programme will see six schools benefitting from a selection of energy efficiency works.
It is jointly funded with a â¬14 million budget from the Department of Education and Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Planning and Building Unit i ....
