Akron to replace lead water pipes with copper to improve water quality for 400 homes

AKRON, Ohio – Mayor Dan Horrigan announced Thursday the city will use $2 million in grants to replace lead water lines with copper lines serving about 400 homes in 2021 and 2022.
Akron has been awarded $1 million each year for two years from the Ohio EPA through a Water Supply Revolving Loan Account loan, money does not need to be paid back, the city said in a news release.
The city seeks to “replace as many lead services as possible while this funding is available,” the release states. About 150 homes have been selected for line replacement in 2021, with another 300 slated to receive new pipes in 2022. ....
