Patna, May 17 : The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar have written to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, urging him to stop the ongoing construction work of a pilot channel in Uttar Pradesh that is currently underway in some districts of eastern UP to divert the flow of rivers towards the West Champaran district in Bihar. ....

The Mekong River Commission has expressed concerns over the “worrying” levels of the critical Mekong River and has asked China for more information about its hydropower dams.
The inter-government body released a statement on Friday and said water levels between Jinghong hydropower station in China’s Yunnan province and the Mekong Delta in Vietnam “have fallen to worrying levels.” ....

Govt open to talks but not to repeal of laws; farmers hold hunger strike


Sources said back-channel talks were on with leaders of some of the unions in the group of 32. “Some leaders are willing to understand the need for arriving at a middle path. Not having discussed possible exit options, they are stuck with their maximalist position. But a solution may be in the offing,” the source said without elaborating.
