CAPE TOWN, April 19 (Xinhua) The South African National Defence Force will fly the helicopters as soon as weather permits to support fire fighting after a wildfire broke out on the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town early Sunday, the Western Cape government said Monday.
In a statement, the provincial government said the fire has spread toward the City Bowl area, where the city center is located.
The military s air resources were activated on Monday morning and are on standby. However, the operation hasn t started due to the strong wind, the statement said. ....

The wildfire, which broke out on Sunday morning, swept across Table Mountain, claiming the Rhodes Memorial Restaurant and a number of buildings on the University of Cape Town campus, including the Jagger Library and historic Mostert’s Mill.
UCT students were evacuated on Sunday afternoon, with further evacuations in surrounding areas taking place on Monday morning. Gemma Blommaert, Head of Global Forex at Sable International, explains:

While the Cape Town fire has been declared under control, residents remain concerned having been evacuated from their homes.
With Cape Town Executive Mayor Dan Plato having announced that the devastating blaze wreaking havoc in the Mother City has successfully been brought under control on Monday afternoon, fire crews remain in place to ensure that no further flare-ups occur. Residents remain concerned though, with smoke engulfing the city bowl cradled beneath Table Mountain and immeasurable damage to historical sites and properties having been reported .
It was confirmed earlier in the day that since the fire began on Sunday morning, four firefighters have been injured and are receiving medical treatment. ....
