Tamil Nadu Assembly Election: The 2 Decisions That Could Make, Or Break, EPS In Tamil Nadu Polls

Tamil Nadu Assembly Election: EPS is hoping to lead the AIADMK to a third term (File)
Chennai:
Ten years of anti-incumbency, the absence of a larger-than-life leader and a fight for control of the party (from within and outside) has put the AIADMK and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, or EPS, in a tight position, from which he has to buck the odds to emerge a winner.
So the ruling party and its ally, the BJP, have decided to do what always works well - disappointingly so - in Indian elections - play the caste card to influence voters.

CHENNAI: April 6, 2021 might be the beginning of a new chapter in Tamil Nadu’s political history. Tuesday’s polls might not just decide the course of the next five years, but the decades ahead. The electorate of the State has been deprived of its trusted choices of M Karunanidhi and J Jayalalithaa, and the popular choice is now between DMK’s MK Stalin and AIADMK’s Edappadi K Palaniswami.

NAMAKKAL: The days of cash-for-votes being an underhanded, hush-hush affair seem to be far behind. On Monday, a few residents of Pattanam village in Rasipuram Assembly constituency staged a road roko, brazenly demanding money from political parties in return for their votes.
The protesters parked their two-wheelers across the road to block traffic, and raised slogans questioning why they had not received a single rupee from the parties yet. “With just a few hours left for the polls, political parties are refusing to give us money. But other people in and around the village got Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per vote,” they said. The protest shocked many as the Election Commission of India has been raising awareness against taking bribes for votes.

Counting in Tamil Nadu begins before polling, it is cash before votes | Chennai News

The flying squad teams and special surveillance teams and other enforcement agencies had seized cash and other materials worth Rs 433.92 crore until Monday
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu votes on Tuesday amid complaints of voter bribery from both AIADMK and DMK and seizures of more than Rs 230 crore in cash, besides a protest demonstration in one village demanding cash.
Chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo said his office has not received any communication from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on rescinding polls, following complaints of distribution of cash to voters by parties, in any assembly segment.
Earlier in the day, the ruling AIADMK complained to the chief electoral officer seeking countermanding of polls in five assembly segments, where DMK leaders are contesting. These were Kolathur (DMK president M K Stalin), Chepauk – Triplicane (Udhayanidhi Stalin), Katpadi (general secretary S Durai Murugan), Trichy West (principal secretary K N Nehru) and Tiruvannamalai (former DMK minister E V Velu) where the AIADMK alleged its rival had distributed cash on a large scale to voters.
