Norwalk Zoners approve BMHS softball field

A PowerPoint slide shown to the Norwalk Zoning Commission on Wednesday by Mike Mahoney of Musco Lighting.
NORWALK, Conn. The City is free to begin construction on a new softball field at Brien McMahon High School, even if neighbors are not persuaded that the lights won’t be shining into their homes.
“This is a beautiful street, a beautiful community. And it’s going to be destroyed by that dome of light that is going to sit there,” James Wehrle said Wednesday, unsuccessfully trying to convince the Norwalk Zoning Commission not to approve the field and its 60-foot-tall light poles. ....

Norwalk defends lights at proposed BMHS softball field

Zoning Commission Chairman Lou Schulman questions the lighting plan for the Brien MccMahon High School softball field, shown in a photo rendering by Stantec.
NORWALK, Conn. Somehow, the discussion stemming from years of parental public pleading for an state-of-the-art girls softball field at Brien McMahon High School did not reach the people who would be most affected by the sought-after changes, the people who live across the street.
The Norwalk Zoning Commission has therefore delayed its decision on the proposed field and its 60-foot-tall light poles. Zoners have kept their public hearing open, suggesting that the City show the neighbors other fields, to support the claim that new technology keeps light from spreading to surrounding properties. They also said they wanted to hear from the Board of Education. ....

East Norwalk set for housing on former Bank of America site

For this location I’m completely against residential I would very much like to see commercial space used for it preferably something like a Bodega or office space or even a mechanic shop those three things are desperately needed in that area
A restaurant or small business would be better for the neighborhood. Prior to the bank there was a restaurant. Traffic on the side roads in that area is bad and the people speed around. More housing is not needed in that area!
The surrender from city officials aka “we can’t do anything” in the video is a prime example of what is exactly wrong with city government. What a cop out and dereliction of duty not to solicit public input and incorporate residential concerns into future land use reforms. Sad! Applications such as this and many other land use applications which have been a net negative for the city continue to be rubber stamped to the detriment of residents. I suggest these officials resign and be replaced by a competent ....

Zoners rebuff East Norwalk developer

A rendering of the proposal for 93 Winfield St.
NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk Zoners have turned down the controversial proposal for the former Bank of America site in East Norwalk. While the 2.5 story multifamily development was denied, applicant G&T Norwalk LLC is free to reapply with modifications in response to Zoning feedback as the decision was made “without prejudice.”
Neighbors, in the Tuesday evening part II of the public hearing, spoke against the proposal as being out of character with their neighborhood, too dense and likely to cause parking problems as guests and others used nearby side streets.
“I understand that property owners have a right to do with their property. You know what, what they can and what they want within the bounds of the regulations and the density of the area. I think 14 units there is just too many,” Dave Roger said. ....
