Beltangady, Feb 16: The mortal remains of a student of Ujire who got trapped under a pile of mud following sudden landslide at Bangarapalke Badamane Abbi Waterfalls in Kudremukh National Park of Malavanthige village here, was found on Tuesday, February 16, after 23 days of constant search operation.
The deceased is Sanath Shetty (21), son of Kashibettu Krishnaiah Vasudeva Shetty of Laila village. He was a second year degree student of SDM College, Ujire.
The tragedy took place on January 25.
It may be recalled that his friends Adithya, Sourabh and others, who were at the spot when the landslide occurred, escaped with Sourabh with minor injuries. But Sanath was trapped under the mud. ....

Locals and staff of the Charmadi Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada lifting garbage dumped by the side of National Highway 73 during a cleaning drive.
Throwing or dumping garbage on the evergreen Charmadi Ghat section on the National Highway 73 in Dakshina Kannada will henceforth cost one’s pocket as the Charmadi Gram Panchayat has begun imposing fines on such persons.
Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Prakash Shetty has cautioned that the panchayat will also file criminal cases against such persons.
Mr. Shetty told
The Hindu that as a first step, the panchayat imposed a fine of ₹500 on a man after catching him red-handed while throwing garbage by the side of the highway on Sunday. Incidentally, the man who threw garbage was from nearby Ujire. ....

Panaji, Jan 19: Union minister Shripad Naik was on Tuesday briefly brought out of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he is undergoing treatment after meeting with an accident last week.
He had met with a road accident on January 11th while going from Yellapur to Gokarna in Karnataka.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Naik said that by God s grace, he has recovered from the tragic accident.
I am seeing this day after a long time. I appeal to people not to crowd at the hospital to meet me. I will be discharged in four to five days and after that, I will meet everyone, he said. ....
