New incentives to encourage investment in Australia

The Australian Government is introducing new tax, research and development, and innovation incentives to attract talented individuals and exceptional businesses to Australia.
In its Budget 2021–22 Statement, the Government committed to the following programs.
New visas
The Government has introduced a new Global Talent visa and Temporary Activity visa. It will modernise the framework for individual tax residency to encourage relocation to Australia.
New business investment incentives
finalise the implementation of the Corporate Collective Investment Vehicle regime
establish a more efficient licensing regime for foreign financial service providers
review the tax treatment of venture capital to examine whether current arrangements are creating incentives for additional investment and genuine early stage Australian startups. ....

Coming off the back of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Treasurer cited a need to maintain an avid focus on the nation’s economic recovery, with a commitment to supporting jobs and essential services of utmost importance.
“The COVID-19 recession will see our deficit reach $161 billion this year, falling to $57 billion in 2024-25. With more Australians back at work, this year’s deficit is $52.7 billion lower than was expected just over six months ago in last year’s budget,” Josh Frydenberg said. ....

Thousands of foreign backpackers and students are given a free pass to work more in Australia


Thousands of foreign backpackers and students in Australia will be allowed to undertake more work under changes announced in the federal Budget to offset the impact of the nation s border closure that is set to extend into mid-2022. 
Student visa holders will be temporarily allowed to work more hours in the tourism and hospitality sectors, as the government seeks to ramp up support for both industries hit hard by a lack of foreign workers entering the country. 
The government has scrapped the 40 hour per fortnight limit for foreign students in both industries which have historically relied on temporary visa holders.    ....

Federal Budget 2021 Australia: No date set for border reopening, tourism and education left hanging


A $53.6 million package has been allocated towards the international education sector.
A Budget media release from Education Minister Alan Tudge declared universities and many other higher education providers had benefited from an influx of domestic students, but other English language providers and higher private educators had been hit hard by the absence of overseas students.
The package will fund an extra 5000 short courses for domestic students in 2021-22 at non-university higher-education providers.

A fund of $150,000 grants will also be available for independent English language and higher education providers to adapt to the impact of the pandemic.
Keeping our borders closed has been our best defence against COVID-19, but we realise the impact this has had on private providers, Mr Tudge said. ....
