Pakistan posted the highest-ever exports for the month of July as shipments reached $2.35 billion, up 17.3%.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood announced, “During the first month of financial year 2021-22, our exports grew at 17.3% to $2.35 billion as compared to $2 billion in July 2020.”
“These are the highest-ever exports for the month of July,” he added.
The recent rupee depreciation against the US dollar and opening of economies in the West helped improve exports in July 2021, said Topline Securities’ economist Atif Zafar while talking to The Express Tribune. ....

The tax collection from dividend income has registered a sharp growth of 33 percent during the fiscal year 2020-21 due to better earnings of the corporate sector.
The collection of income tax grew to Rs18.46 billion during the fiscal year 2020-21, compared with Rs13.83 billion in the preceding fiscal year. The tax collection from the dividend income is based on the earnings of the companies registered with the Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Karachi.
The LTO Karachi is the major revenue arm of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and contributes around 40 percent of the land taxes in the total collection at the national level. ....

Pakistan achieved the highest-ever export of goods valuing at $25.3 billion in fiscal year 2020-21.
A statement of the Ministry of Commerce, released on Thursday, said that exports registered an increase of 18% on a year-on-year basis.
In a series of tweets, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood boasted that export of goods in June 2021 stood at $2.7 billion, which was the highest monthly figure for the country. ....

Taking cue from the government’s business-friendly policies, low interest rate and economic turnaround in fiscal year 2021, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) exhibited a seven-year high performance as it gave a return of 38% on investment in shares in the year ended Wednesday.
PSX’s benchmark KSE 100 Index increased 38% (or up by 12,934 points) during the year and closed at 47,356 points. In US dollar terms, the market offered a return of 46.22% in FY21.
The market is expected to maintain the growth momentum in the new fiscal year 2022 starting on Thursday (today) following a cut of 2.5% in capital gains tax (CGT) on sale of shares to 12.5% with effect from July 1 compared to 15% since FY17. ....

Pakistani rupee showed strong resistance against the US dollar during fiscal year 2020-21 despite serious repercussions of Covid-19 for the national economy.
The local currency appreciated by 6.2% against the greenback between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
On Wednesday - the last day of the fiscal year - the rupee traded at Rs157.54 to a dollar compared to Rs168.05 on June 30, 2020, translating into its strengthening by Rs10.51.
During FY21, the government introduced strict rules to curb money laundering and its efforts yielded positive results as dollar smuggling shrank, leading to an increase in inflows through legal channels. ....
