Rehabilitation of mausoleums vital for religious tourism: PM

ISLAMABAD: Describing mausoleums across the country as historical heritage, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday the rehabilitation and preservation of such places was very important for the promotion of religious tourism.
He called for the formation of a comprehensive plan for the proper use of state land around the mausoleums so that the same could be utilised for hospitals and educational institutions.
The Prime Minister was presiding over a meeting about the comprehensive development and management project of the mausoleum of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) and the preservation, rehabilitation and beautification of Lahore’s historic Badshahi Mosque and other mausoleums in Punjab. ....

LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (HEC) came under criticism in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday for what the lawmakers said not giving space to administrators of various universities to function.
“The PML-N government unnecessarily established the HEC, which kept the [administrative] systems of universities paralysed in the last 10 years,” Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said during the Question Hour pertaining to the Higher Education Department.
“We’re now mourning the unnecessary tasks undertaken by the PML-N government. There’s a need to change the whole higher education system in the province,” said the speaker in an unusual grilling of the former ruling party. ....

Firdous humiliates Sialkot AC during Ramazan Bazaar visit - Newspaper

SIALKOT/LAHORE: Chief Secretary Jawwad Rafique Malik stood up to the `uncivilised’ behaviour of Special Assistant to Chief Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan when she humiliated a woman assistant commissioner in public during her visit to a Ramazan Bazaar in Sialkot on Sunday.
As Dr Awan’s video clip went viral on the social and electronic media, the chief secretary issued a statement and said that he had conveyed his reservations about the Sialkot incident to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
The clip shows the special assistant scolding AC Sonia Sadaf at a stall for ‘poor quality of fruit’.
“It is your duty to check every commodity in the bazaar since you are paid for that.” ....

LAHORE: Most of the Punjab Cabinet members have proposed that the provincial government must go ahead to impose lockdown in the cities facing high coronavirus rate.
As many as 2,100 coronavirus deaths and 85,900 new positive cases have been reported during the past one month. Lahore alone is facing 22.7 per cent positivity rate at present. Twenty-three districts are reporting over 8pc infection rate in Punjab.
However, the cabinet in its 43rd meeting at chief minister’s secretariat on Thursday did not immediately decide to propose lockdown in select cities to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). ....
