Cumbria Police statement on forensics issue affecting 23 police forces


Drug driving
THE impact of an issue affecting people convicted of drug driving will not be felt until after a review has been carried out.
Cumbria Police said they were a number of case in the county affected by potential accuracy issues involving the testing of drug driver samples.
One driver has already had a previous conviction reopened and withdrawn by a court due to problems with the Synlab forensic laboratory used by police.
Ulverston man Keiran Vernon, 20, was convicted of driving with cannabis in his system last year.
But South Cumbria Magistrates Court granted an appeal to reopen the case and dismiss the charge against him. ....

Abandoned barbecue found burning in woodland


Firefighters from Wareham were called to the incident yesterday evening.
A spokesman for the station said: One fire engine was sent to a woodland near Blue Pool where someone decided to have a BBQ and then left it burning.
