After the oxygen crisis hit the State with many losing lives for the want of oxygen, the health and family welfare department has now issued a circular asking the
hospitals to set up
oxygen plants so that there is no repeat of the crisis when the possible third wave hits the State. As per circular, private medical establishments should install oxygen plants in their premises within four months.
If the hospital has a
total bed capacity of 100-plus beds, then, a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) or refilling plants create necessary infrastructure which should have sufficient capacity to produce at least two times their normal requirement of oxygen. In case of hospitals has a bed capacity between 50-99, they need to install their own ....

The APAC Moses master campaign virtual conference was recently held to showcase technological advancements in the medical field. Dr Manohar T, Chief Urologist, Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur (a unit of Manipal Hospitals) performed a live surgery demonstrating Moses technology (MOLEP) to treat prostate enlargement.
A 72-year-old person suffering from prostate enlargement underwent the surgery at Columbia Asia Referral Hospital Yeshwanthpur. The patient had symptoms of urine blockage and a hernia. During the consultation, he was again diagnosed with prostate enlargement which required immediate surgery. The patient agreed to undergo prostate surgery using Moses technology. ....

With second Covid wave, health workers face risk of burnout

BENGALURU: As the State is seeing an exponential jump in Covid cases, doctors and nursing staff who are overworked are under severe mental stress and worry that the quality of treatment of Covid patients would suffer if this continues. Healthcare workers have been working continuously since the onset of the pandemic in March last year. There was some respite in October last year when cases started going down. But with the second and more severe wave wracking the country and state, these health professionals face the real possibility of a burnout.
Dr Naveen Kumar R A, Internal Medicine Specialist Covid-19, Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences, said, “We are definitely overworked as there is a shortage of doctors and resources. We cannot even meet our parents. Back at my hometown in Chikkaballapur, all five of my family are infected. I cannot even see them as I have to perform my duties here. At Covid wards, we see at least 10-12 patients die ever ....
