The Election Commission has said that the Returning Officer (RO) is the final authority under the law in the matter of recounting in the Nandigram assembly constituency.
Certain sections of media have reported about the matter of recounting in Nandigram AC. Returning officer (RO) of an assembly constituency performs statutory functions under the RP Act, 1951 in quasi-judicial capacity independently. Whether it is nomination, polling or counting, the RO acts strictly in accordance with the extant electoral laws, instructions and guidelines of the ECI, the poll body said. ....

New Delhi [India], May 4 (ANI): The Election Commission on Tuesday said the Returning Officer (RO) is the final authority under the law in the matter of recounting in the Nandigram assembly constituency.
Certain sections of media have reported about the matter of recounting in Nandigram AC. Returning officer (RO) of an assembly constituency performs statutory functions under the RP Act, 1951 in quasi-judicial capacity independently. Bengal polls: EC directs transfer of 3 police officers with immediate effect
The Election Commission has directed the transfer of SP Alipurduar Amitabha Maiti, DCP Chandannagar, Hoogly Tathagata Basu and Deputy SP Industrial Diamond Harbour police District Mithun De with immediate effect.Â
The Commission in its direction addressed to the Chief Secretary West Bengal stated that Mithun De shall be kept Awaiting Posting Orders while other Officer being transferred out shall not be given any election-related posting.
Polling for the first two phases of the West Bengal polls was held on March 27 and April 1 respectively. The next phase of polling will take place on April 6. The counting of votes will take place on May 2. ....
