pray@altoonamirror.com The Pennsylvania SuÂÂpreme Court has upheld the termination of parental rights of a Bedford County man, but the 5-2 decision issued March 26 raised several questions that remain to be answered. The state’s highest court was reviewing a case in which a father was challenging a decision by Bedford County Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas S. Ling to terminate his parental rights. The father and mother broke off their relationship shortly after their child’s birth eight years ago. For three years, the father maintained contact with the child and paid support, but the mother married and she and the boy’s stepfather petitioned the court to terminate the rights of the natural father so the stepfather could adopt the child. ....
Wecht HARRISBURG – The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has affirmed a lower court ruling which declared not only that Amerprise Financial was deceptive in its sale of insurance and financial services, but that proving intent to deceive isn’t required to win such a case filed under the state consumer protection law. In a 4-3 ruling on Feb. 17, the state’s high court upheld a decision from the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, which also found that protections outlined in the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law applied to plaintiffs Gary and Mary Gregg, in their lawsuit versus Ameriprise Financial, Inc., Riversource Life Insurance Company and Robert A.
