Providence, RI – Norton Police Department (NPD) Deputy Chief Thomas “Tommy” Petersen died on Tuesday due to complications of a stomach ailment, according to his department.
The 51-year-old deputy chief went to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro on July 10 due to stomach pain and was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital on Sunday, NPD Chief Brian Clark told The Sun Chronicle.
He passed away on Tuesday while surrounded by his family, Chief Clark said in a press release that evening.
“It is with great sadness that Chief Brian Clark and members of the Norton Police Department announce the passing of Deputy Chief of Police Thomas J. Petersen Jr. who passed away earlier today at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his family after a brief illness,” the chief wrote. ....

Norton community mourns police officer lost to COVID
NORTON – Norton police Det. Sgt. Stephen Desfosses has died after a battle with COVID-19.
“Desfosses proudly and distinctly served the community of Norton for over 30 years,” Police Chief Brian Clark said on the Norton Police Department’s Facebook page.
“He was a loyal, trusted and dedicated member of this department holding many positions including detective division commander, shift supervisor, training officer and he commanded the award-winning Norton Police Honor Guard.”
Desfosses, 52, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Jan. 13, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the husband of Jessica C. (Vogan) Desfosses, to whom he was wed for 12 years. ....

Det. Sgt. Stephen Desfosses death was announced by the Norton Police Department Wednesday afternoon.
It is with great sadness that Chief Brian Clark and the members of the Norton Police Department announce the passing of Detective Sergeant Stephen Desfosses after a courageous battle with Covid 19. Members of his family were by his side when he peacefully passed, the statement said.
Det. Sgt. Stephen DesFosses of Attleboro is fighting for his life after being hospitalized with coronavirus.
Desfosses, who d served Norton for more than 30 years, left behind a wife and children.
He had been hospitalized at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with coronavirus since the week before Christmas. ....
