The new Cincinnati Fire Department chief will be a 25-year veteran of the department who most recently led the fire prevention and community risk reduction division.
Michael Washington will take over the department s top spot when Chief Roy Winston retires on July 24 after 33 years on the force and nearly four years as chief.
Assistant Chief Washington brings not only decades of experience and expertise in all aspects of fire and emergency services but also possesses the necessary management and organizational skills to effectively lead the organization into the future, City Manager Paula Boggs Muething said in a memo to city council Friday. ....

Cincy Fire Department Promotes Michael Washington To Fire Chief

The Cincinnati Fire Department will have a new Chief starting this summer. Officials announced Friday they are promoting Assistant Chief Michael Washington, Sr. to the job. He ll take over when Chief Roy Winston retires in July.
Washington has been with the department for nearly three decades. He currently leads the Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction Division.
He s worked previously as Fire Investigator, Fire Captain, Public Information Officer, and District Fire Chief.
Chief Winston served as Fire Chief since 2017 and was with the department for about 33 years. He retires July 24.
