Northlines Former J&K legislator Thakur Puran Singh dies after returning from Uttarakhand Thakur Puran Singh, the former lawmaker and Minister of State in Jammu and Kashmir, died on Thursday in his hometown of Rajouri. In his mid 70s, Thakur was earlier affiliated with the Congress and later joined the BJP.
He remained Member Legislative Assembly from Darhal assembly segment till 2002 as independent candidate and later joined Congress and was inducted as MoS Forest and Fisheries.
A resident of Badhal in Budhal area of Rajouri’s Kotranka subdivision, Thakur had recently returned from a religious congregation in Uttarakhand and fell ill.

An official said that the administration has ordered cremation of the deceased as per the laid down Covid-19 SOPs. He said that the deceased, a resident of Kewal Badhal in Kotranka sub-division, had recently returned from a religious congregation at Haridwar and since then he was not keeping well. “He was being taken to a hospital in Punjab but died on way,” the official said. He said that body has been brought to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri where further arrangements are being made to conduct cremation as per SOPs.

Following Singh’s death, “suspected to be due to covid-19”, the administration in Rajouri has ordered his cremation strictly as per the health department’s protocol for SARS-CoV-2 virus casualties. Manzoor Ahmed Naik, BJP Youth Wing Spokesperson J&K, told GNS that Thakur Puran Singh, a resident of Kewal Koteranka, had returned from Kumbh Mela recently. He was under treatment at a hospital and died today, Naik said.
