Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro The city of Cottonwood Shores is facing competition in purchasing a power generator for the city’s water treatment system.  “After the big ice storm, everyone is looking for them,” City Administrator J.C. Hughes said.  The City Council granted Hughes and Mayor Don Orr the authority to purchase one from the state of Texas’ federal surplus, a cheaper option than buying a generator from traditional suppliers, which could run as high as $300,000.

Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro The Cottonwood Shores City Council on May 6 agreed to transfer water taps paid for 15 years ago to land investors trying to lure developers with the amenity. “The folks who own the property aren’t developers; they’re investors in the land,” Mayor Don Orr said. “They’re going to solicit developers and sell those properties to them. (The water taps) are a bargaining chip.”

Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro The Cottonwood Shores Police Department is adding two more Ford Explorers to its stable to keep up with officer numbers and cut down on individual vehicle mileage. Councilors approved purchasing the two used patrol SUVs at $20,000 each during the May 6 meeting. Police Chief Johnny Liendo said the department has doubled in staffing the past four years from three to six but not in vehicles. As a result, officers share the department’s vehicles, which means the units are used 24 hours a day, seven days a week
