No reason to expect shortage of goods

A senior Government official has said there is no reason to expect there will be any significant shortages in goods because of ongoing post-Brexit supply chain challenges.
Declan Hughes, an Assistant Secretary in the Indigenous Enterprise Unit in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, said there may have been - and may be in future - some isolated incidents with certain products.
But there had been no shortages of significance at this stage, he added.
Mr Hughes was speaking at a multi-agency Brexit briefing at Dublin Port, alongside officials from Revenue, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Transport and An Garda Siochana. ....

Revenue warns of ‘immediate impact’ on January 1st for businesses that have not fully completed their preparations.

The Revenue Commissioners have given businesses more time to swap over to new customs IT systems as industry warns of “carnage” in January trying to manage post-Brexit checks.
In a sign that many small and medium-sized companies are not ready for new customs procedures on trade with Britain from the start of 2021, Revenue has extended, for the second time, the parallel running of new and old IT systems from next week until the end of March 2021. ....

Revenue extends dual running of Customs Import Systems until 31 March 2021
Revenue’s new customs declaration system, the Automated Import System (AIS), was launched on 23 November 2020. The new modernised system, which reflects all the legal requirements of the EU Union Customs Code (UCC) and is designed to replace the Automated Entry Processing (AEP) declaration system for imports, is being actively used by some 130 customs agents and businesses. Customs import declaration filing volumes in AIS now exceed those being filed via AEP. To date, 47 of the top 50 agents and businesses who file import declarations are using AIS. This level of activity on the new system reflects the excellent engagement by trade and business and by the software providers in adopting the new system. ....
