GDC: 44 percent of developers have had games delayed due to pandemic

In 2020, the Game Developers Conference survey showed that a third of developers have had projects delayed due to COVID-19. Now, a full year later, almost half of developers say the pandemic has led to game delays.
The annual GDC survey results went live this week, showing that 44 percent of respondents have had a game they are working on delayed due to the pandemic. The switch to remote working has made it harder for many developers to collaborate properly and communications have been disrupted by the change too.
Game testing is particularly tricky in a remote working environment, as not everyone has a good home internet connection, and the need for VPN connections to utilise dev kits further complicates matters. ....

The U.S. Postal Service announced plans this week to consolidate 18 of the country s major mail sorting facilities in coming months. Officials of the postal workers union say the move could redirect mail in some regions by nearly 100 miles and further delay delivery, NBC News reports.
Advocates of rural communities also expressed concern that plant consolidation plans could create problems for farmers who rely on livestock deliveries. ....

Night closures and daytime disruptions on the Remutaka Hill road will be the norm during a three-week period in May.
Night closures from 9pm until 4am are scheduled from May 16 to May 21, and May 23 to May 28.

Motorists returning to Auckland from Northland following the long Anzac Day weekend are reporting no delays, although traffic is buildling closer to the city.
We just drove through Wellsford and Warkworth and on to Takapuna, arriving home at 2.15pm, said one motorist.
Another motorist reported a smooth drive through Warkworth - a notorious bottleneck at long weekends.
The trip to and from Northland is expected to improve from May next year when the 18.5km Puhoi to Warkworth four-lane highway is completed. It will bypass the growing township of Warkworth - one of the worst weekend holiday bottlenecks in the country. ....

Construction on a $20 million apartment hotel in Mount Maunganui will restart next month after Covid delays pushed the project a year behind schedule.
The Quest Mount Maunganui development is on the corner of Rata
St and Maunganui Rd, which was previously occupied by the Breakers cafe and bar for more than a decade.
The development, including 40 apartments and four ground-floor retail spaces, was expected to open early this year. ....
