Free period products now available at Auckland Council facilities

Auckland Council has partnered with charity The Period Place to provide free period products and basic period education in select Auckland Council community centres for a trial launched on International Women’s Day.
“We are delighted to partner with The Period Place for this initiative. Period poverty is a real concern in our society, and we need to do what we can to support all who menstruate,” says Councillor Alf Filipaina, Chair of Auckland Council’s Parks Arts Communities and Events Committee.
The Period Place CEO Danika Revell agrees, saying that launching the partnership on International Women’s Day is significant. ....

Community rallies behind family after tragic two-year-old death

During one of Tara s darkest hours, the community and surrounding towns provided what light they can for a local family who has been rocked to the core after the heartbreaking loss of two-year-old Ruby Gulliver.
Numerous emergency services descended on a rural Tara property on Monday afternoon, March 8, in search of the toddler who was found in a nearby dam after a 10 hour land, air, and water search.
Just hours after the tragic news spread across the tight-knit community numerous organisations were putting their hand up to make sure the family had whatever love and support they needed. ....

The Herald is profiling 12 charities awarded $8333 in grants from Auckland Airport s Twelve Days of Christmas programme – now in its 13th year. The $100,000 funding comes from generous travellers who donate money at the airport.
Pensioners are going hungry in South Auckland due to skyrocketing rental prices, says Māngere Budgeting Service chief executive Darryl Evans.
