TAL found guilty in ASIC Federal Court action

The case related to a consumer who made a claim under her income protection policy in January 2014 after she was diagnosed with cancer and after obtaining the consumer’s medical history, TAL was alleged to have avoided her policy on the basis that she failed to disclose an unrelated prior medical history.
ASIC alleged that TAL avoided the policy without first giving notice to the consumer of a retrospective investigation into her medical history or offering her an opportunity to address the concerns raised before rejecting her claim.

Philippines raises alert over second-most active volcano

MANILA, March 9 (dpa): Philippine scientists on Tuesday raised the alert level over the country’s second most active volcano following signs of increased unrest.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed Taal volcano in Batangas province, 66 kilometres south of Manila, under alert status level 2.
This means that there is probable magmatic activity that may or may not lead to an eruption,” the institute said in a bulletin.
Evacuation of residents living near the volcano is not yet recommended, but local government units were advised to boost contingency plans in case of more unrest.
Over the past 24 hours, Phivolcs monitored ground swelling, a spike in temperature of the water in the crater lake and dozens of volcanic earthquakes. ....

The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is preparing for the possible evacuation of residents living around the Taal Volcano after Alert Level 2 was raised on Tuesday.
Batangas PDRRMO head Lito Castro told GMA News Online that the volcano island remains the only threatened area so far.
“Ang isa pa ho nyan, ‘yung preparedness natin kung saka-sakaling magkakaroon ng evacuation. Sa ngayon, wala namang advice na i-evacuate ang nasa mainland, kundi kung saka-sakaling magkakaroon,” he added.
According to Castro, municipal governments of some concerned areas have banned their residents from entering the Taal Lake. In some areas, the window hours for fishers to go to the lake have been reduced. ....
