Thousands in fake money, imitation gun seized during a police raid in Orillia

Thousands of dollars in fake currency and several weapons are now off the streets after police raided a home in the City of Orillia last week.
According to police, several units executed a search warrant at an Isabella Drive residence at 6 a.m. on April 9.
After a search of the home, police say officers seized an undisclosed amount of cocaine, $25,000 in counterfeit Canadian currency, as well as a conductive energy weapon, a prohibited knife, and an imitation handgun.
Police arrested and charged a 46-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Orillia. The accused have been released  and have a court date scheduled in an Orillia court on June 15. ....

Simcoe Muskoka parents await announcement from Education Minister

Simcoe Muskoka parents are anxiously awaiting an afternoon announcement by Ontario s Education Minister.
Stephen Lecce is scheduled to appear alongside Premier Doug Ford at a 2:30 p.m. news conference at Queen s Park. Chief Medical Officer of Health David Williams and Health Minister Christine Elliott are also expected to speak.
The news conference will be streamed live on the CTV Barrie website.
Sources tell CTV News Toronto the province is considering returning to online learning for at least two weeks following spring break as COVID-19 cases surge.
As the delayed break begins, moms and dads have fewer options to keep kids busy during a stay-at-home order and a rainy forecast across Simcoe and Muskoka. ....

Barrie Circle K held up at knifepoint for second time in 11 days


 
BARRIE, ONT.
A convenience store in Barrie’s east end has been held up for the second time in less than two weeks.
According to Barrie police, a man robbed the Circle K near St Vincent and Duckworth Streets around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Surveillance video captured the suspect wielding what appears to be a machete. No injuries were reported.
Police are not able to confirm if the robbery is linked to a similar holdup at the same store on April 1.
A knife was also used in that case, and the suspect walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash and two packs of cigarettes. ....
