David Childs co-invented PCSELs.Vector Photonics, a spin-out from the University of Glasgow, UK, has appointed Dr. David Childs as its Director of Product Development. Childs co-invented the all-semiconductor PCSELs (Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Lasers), Vector Photonics’ proprietary laser technology.
In his new role, Childs will supervise operations, developing new PCSEL designs into production-ready devices, for datacoms, LiDAR, 3D metal printing and 3D plastic printing – the company’s initial, target markets. ....

Openreach, the semi-autonomous network access arm of UK incumbent operator BT, has chosen India-based STL to supply cable and connectors for its full-fiber rollout over the next three years. The deal will include access to STL s Celesta cable, which STL claims is 26% slimmer than traditional loose cables, allowing 2,000 meters of cable to be installed in less than an hour. It will also help Openreach cut down on the amount of plastic it uses in its network. ....
