Wendy's Proposed For Former Honey Dew Donuts Location In Mashpee | Mashpee News

A Wendyâs fast food restaurant proposed for the former Honey Dew Donuts location at 44 Falmouth Road in Mashpee faces few regulatory hurdles due to the existing drive-thru.
Town Planner Evan Lehrer said that while the townâs zoning does not allow for drive-thru businesses in the C2 zoning district where the property is located, the particular location is grandfathered in under a special permit for a drive-thru window issued in 1996.
âThis is one of those things that people are going to really chatter about, but from a regulatory perspective or a legal perspective there isnât much to do,â Mr. Lehrer said. âThey are allowed to continue operating a preexisting, nonconforming use.â ....

Heated Planning Board Meeting Kicks Off Mashpee Commons Expansion Talks

Debate grew heated during a virtual Mashpee Planning Board meeting on Wednesday, April 21, over a proposal by the Mashpee Commons, which is seeking a large-scale expansion, to appoint two board members to a subcommittee.
The board voted 3-2 against the proposal for the subcommittee as a three-party development agreement process to negotiate the proposed expansion among the planning board, the Cape Cod Commission and the Commons entered its earliest stages.
Eliza Cox, an attorney representing the Mashpee Commons, asked that the board appoint two members to a subcommittee for discussions over the proposed language of a zoning amendment that would create a Community Activity Center Overlay District. ....

Mashpee Property Owner Submits Petition Article To Create Solar Overlay District

A petition article submitted for Spring Town Meeting will ask Mashpee voters to consider whether to allow a solar overlay district that would encompass about 40 acres of land south of Route 151.
The planning board voted unanimously during its virtual meeting on Wednesday, February 17, to hold a public hearing on the petition article on March 17 at 7:10 PM.
The lead petitioner on the article, William Haney, is the owner of the approximately 40 acres of land off Route 151 where the solar overlay district would be established if approved by Town Meeting.
Should Town Meeting approve the petition article, Mr. Haney could seek a special permit from the planning board to construct a medium- or large-scale solar energy system on the property. The ground-mounted solar system would have to abide by setbacks, include fencing and security, and meet other requirements laid out in the 17-page article by petition. ....
