Guilty Plea Entered In Distribution Of Child Porn | News, Sports, Jobs

A Cattaraugus woman has pleaded guilty to the distribution of child pornography.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that Melanie Thompson, 46, made the plea before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey T. Fiut, who is handling the case, stated that between Jan. 9, 2017, and March 6, 2020, the defendant took sexually explicit photographs of Victim 1, a minor, in furtherance of her plan to impersonate Victim 1. Thereafter, defendant, while impersonating Victim 1, engaged in conversations of a sexual nature with two minor male victims (Victims 2 and 3) and one adult. During those conversations, defendant: solicited a sexually explicit picture from Victim 2; sent, via social media, the sexually explicit photograph she had taken of Victim 1 to Victim 3, receiving two sexually explicit images in return fro ....

83 new COVID-19 cases include 18 jail inmates, 2 COs

OLEAN â A near-record 83 new COVID-19 cases in Cattaraugus County were reported Wednesday, including 18 County Jail inmates and two more corrections officers.
Last Wednesday, rapid testing in the jail found 17 inmates and a couple of corrections officers had COVID-19.
The 35 inmates who have tested positive represent about one-third of the jail population.
The total number of people in the county who have contracted the coronavirus rose to 1,579. There are 521 active cases and 26 individuals are hospitalized including one inmate. There have been 32 deaths since April from COVID-19.
Cattaraugus Countyâs positivity rate Wednesday was 7.7%, up slightly from Tuesdayâs 7.2% rate and down significantly from Mondayâs 10.5% positivity. Wednesdayâs seven-day rolling average is 7.6% and 14-day average is 6.9%. ....
