HUNTINGTON â A new councilwoman is in town. The Huntington City Council selected Sarah Walling to represent District 4. The vacancy was created last month when former Council Chairwoman Jennifer Wheeler resigned. She moved out of the district. Walling took the oath of office Thursday. âItâll be an honor to serve on council,â Walling said following the meeting. âWe had an excellent pool of candidates. It was a hard-fought fight.â Walling, a Democrat, has lived in Huntington since 2010. She is a partner with the law firm Jenkins Fenstermaker. She is also on boards for local community organizations, such as Little Victories Animal Rescue and CONTACT. She is president of the board of Facing Hunger Foodbank and the Ronald McDonald House. ....
HUNTINGTON â Members of Huntingtonâs City Councilâs Administration and Finance Committee last week advanced a resolution to enter a $1.5 million contract with an Ohio construction company to demolish at least 90 houses in Huntington. The contract would be entered with Danny Sullivan Excavating, of Coal Grove, Ohio, which received the highest score by a panel reviewing the bids. Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said Thursday that the funds should cover the demolition of upward of 90 houses, with a cost of at least $10,000 to tear down each home. Williams announced in October 2020 the cityâs goal to demolish 119 buildings on the unsafe building list by June 30, the end of the fiscal year. The demolition is part of Project B.A.N.E., which stands for Blight and Nuisance Elimination. ....
