eizzo@adirondackdailyenterprise.com LAKE PLACID Some of the issues Lake Placid’s two mayoral candidates spoke about Sunday, at a forum hosted by the Enterprise and Lake Placid News, have been problems for the village for decades such as parking and affordable housing. They also discussed regulation short-term vacation rentals, protecting Mirror Lake and bringing large-scale events back to Lake Placid this summer. The candidates for mayor are current Trustee and Deputy Mayor Art Devlin on the Republican and Teamwork party lines and former mayor Jamie Rogers on the Common Sense party line. Devlin, who owns the Art Devlin’s Olympic Motor Inn, has been trustee since 2009 and is now term-limited and can’t run for a trustee seat again. Rogers currently works at Tri-Lakes Marine and was mayor for one four-year term from 2005 to 2009. Before that he served as a trustee for five years. ....

(Enterprise file photo) LAKE PLACID Craig Randall, a Republican, has been the village of Lake Placid’s mayor for the last 12 years, but he has reached the three-term limit and is not seeking reelection. Art Devlin and Jamie Rogers are each asking voters to pick them for the job for the next four years. Both are experienced in the ways of village government. Rogers was a village board trustee for five years two of those as deputy mayor, which means he filled in to chair meetings when the mayor was absent and was then elected mayor for a term, from 2005 until Randall won the 2009 election. ....

What are your qualifications? I served on the board for nine years; three as village trustee, two as deputy mayor and four as mayor. In my four years as mayor, we completed Mid’s Park, Mill Pond Drive and the repaving of Main Street. We implemented several parking upgrades and expanded public transportation. We introduced multiple energy efficiency projects including the very successful Boy Scout Light Bulb Program. Lake Placid Village Board members Tuesday, Feb. 9 voted to pay for prepaid envelopes that will allow the village’s 1,555 registered voters to not only mail back their application for an absentee ballot for free, but also mail the absentee ballot itself back for free. “We will certainly encourage people to vote absentee,” Mayor Craig Randall said Tuesday. “We have people that will have to be social distanced, masked, all of that is a management problem.” ....
