A PATCH of land in Henley is to be tidied up after a seven-year-old girl wrote to the Mayor to say it looked “messy”.
Ella Buckham-Hedges, who lives in Waterman Close, asked Councillor Sarah Miller if she could help transform the area nearby for “everyone to enjoy”.
She was disappointed when a large blackberry bush was removed by Soha Housing, which owns the land, following complaints from residents that it was overgrown.
This left a large patch of mud with bits of broken brick, twigs and blackberry thorns on it. ....

TWO mothers have teamed up with Manchester United FC to improve the lives of children affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Ginny Buckley, from Shiplake, and Georgina Attwood, from Henley, helped to design a “wellbeing” football which carries suggestions for maintaining good mental and physical health as well as an accompanying book exploring these in detail.
The ideas include “be open”, “be active”, “stay curious”, “be friendly”, “speak out” and “have fun”, all of which are backed up by tips from a panel of experts.
The book, which was produced to coincide with the recent Mental Health Awareness Week, outlines the importance of eating well and exercising regularly, always learning new things about the world, maintaining a positive outlook on life and sharing one’s problems with others. ....

A TEENAGE boy with autism has achieved his dream of jumping over a high fence on horseback.
James Preston, from Checkendon, successfully cleared a 1.67m hedge while taking part in a drag hunt at Kingsclere, near Newbury.
The 15-year-old was one of about 50 riders who tackled the course, which is owned by racehorse trainer Andrew Balding.
He beat his personal record set when he and his 11-year-old Irish sports horse Patrick jumped a 1m fence at the Chiltern Cross Country course in Woodcote.
The pair are being taught by experienced rider Amanda Stewart, who lives in Woodcote and befriended James as they both stable their horses at Frieze Farm in Sonning Common. ....
