MRI study looks for signs of Alzheimer's disease

Researchers led by radiologist Dr. Ilya Nasrallah, PhD, of the University of Pennsylvania studied the MRI scans of 454 hypertensive patients who were 50 years or older and completed a brain MRI at baseline and then at four-year follow-up in July 2016. Among the two patient groups, they compared hippocampal volume, measures of Alzheimer s disease regional atrophy, posterior cingulate cerebral blood flow, and mean fractional anisotropy (FA) in the cingulum bundle.
There is no consistent or clinically meaningful difference in magnetic resonance imaging biomarkers of Alzheimer s disease between intensive and standard blood pressure treatment, Nasrallah and colleagues wrote.
Vascular disease is a common comorbidity and may play a factor in initiating or accelerating hippocampal atrophy and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), characteristic biomarkers of Alzheimer s disease. Promaxo gets FDA clearance for office-based MRI scanner

March 8, 2021 Medical imaging, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology firm Promaxo has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its office-based Promaxo MRI scanner.
The scanner was designed for urologists and interventional/urologic radiologists to conduct surgical localization of prostate lesions under MRI guidance in office or outpatient surgical settings. The scanner uses an open single-side design that enables easier access during procedures.

The Promaxo scanner has a limited fringe field and can be installed in an office with no shielding required.
