More than 100 Suburban Homes with Reduced Flood Impacts

The Territory Labor Government has today notified more than 103 property owners in the Rapid Creek catchment area of their reduced impacts to flooding, following the release of updated flood mapping.
Due to work being undertaken and completed in 2019 at the Rapid Creek Catchment and stormwater detention basin there is now a reduced impact of flood for many Territory families.
Combined with other flood mitigation measures, the new detention basin will significantly reduce the impact of flooding on downstream properties, including:
45 properties that are no longer on the Rapid Creek flood map; and
58 properties that are no longer on the Darwin Storm Surge primary flood extent map. ....

The minister made the comments amid protests for the repeal of the Act following the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail after his arrest in a case started under the law.

Farmers support government reforms to unlock development potential in northern Australia

AgForce has welcomed government reforms to boost economic growth in northern Australia.
The changes, introduced through Federal Parliament recently, will speed up investment approvals for the government’s $5 billion lending financier – Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) – turbo-charging job and economic opportunities in the region.
AgForce CEO Michael Guerin said he strongly supported the move, and thanked the government for listening to industry and communities.
“It’s encouraging to see ministers acknowledging the need to further invest in northern Australia,” he said.
“AgForce has been lobbying for change for some time. While we recognised NAIF was an important investment vehicle, we strongly believed more could be done to improve its processes and make things easier for our members to access funding. ....

The large population gives the school potential to harm the environment on a large scale just from its day-to-day operations, so making sustainable practices are consequential. Several campus operations have made recent changes in energy use, dining hall waste and transportation in an effort to reduce UGAâs environmental footprint.Â
Saving energy with solar rays
A critical component of UGAâs overall environmental footprint is energy consumption. According to UGAâs 2019 Energy Primer, UGAâs main campus and health sciences campus purchased more than 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, making it Georgia Powerâs largest customer in northeast Georgia. This represents an increase of 4.7% in energy consumption over the past decade and cost UGA $16.2 million in 2019. ....

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), a group of elected lawmakers who were prevented from taking their seats in Parliament by last month’s coup, said in a statement that Customs Department officials and employees of government ministries involved in tax collection must suspend all such activities until Sept. 30.
The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw is Myanmar’s Union Parliament.
In its statement issued Thursday, signed by U Lwin Ko Latt, the CRPH-appointed minister for the President’s Office, it said, “The respective ministerial departments collecting various taxes must suspend taxation.” ....
