Model Tenancy Act gets Union Cabinet’s nod June 02, 2021 Expected to give a fillip to private participation in rental housing The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, approved the Model Tenancy Act. Now, this will be circulated among States and Union Territories for adoption by way of enacting fresh legislation or amending existing rental laws suitably. “It will help overhaul the legal framework with respect to rental housing across the country, which will help spur its overall growth,” a statement issued by the Government said. Further it mentioned that this Act aims at creating a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive rental housing market in the country. It will enable creation of adequate rental housing stock for all the income groups, thereby addressing the issue of homelessness. ....

The government had promulgated the HEC (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 on 25 March 2021, through which the tenure of the chairperson was reduced from 4 to 2 years, the current Chair Dr. Tariq Banuri was removed from his position, and HEC was placed under the Federal Ministry of Education. The signatories of the letter include senior educationists, vice chancellors, journalists, former ambassadors, generals and other government officials, parliamentarians, and human rights activists. Regulators amend task force ToRs Business April 23, 2021 KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) have amended the Terms of Reference (ToRs) of their Joint Task Force (JTF) on financial conglomerates to further strengthen the supervisory cooperation, inter-alia, in AML/CFT/CPF supervision at the financial-group level, a statement said on Thursday. SBP Governor Dr Reza Baqir, and SECP Chairman Aamir Khan signed the letter of understanding (LoU) for the amendments in the ToRs, it added. The interagency cooperation between the financial sector regulators is a crucial element for the effective supervision of financial groups, which comprise various types of financial institutions. ....
