Murugesh (45) who runs a make-shift cobbler shop on the High Road in Chittoor is anxiously waiting for his customers. He used to run his family somehow with the paltry income of ₹200 a day before the outbreak of virus. During the lockdown imposed last year during the first wave, he had a harrowing time to make his both ends meet.
“After the curbs relaxed, my per day income reduced to half of what I used to earn before. And now, I make ₹40 a day at best. People are staymg indoors and the restricted business hours owing to the partial curfew has almost sunk my business. I have no clue how to run my family,” says Murugesh. ....

The counting of votes for Tirupati Lok Sabha by-election started on Sunday. A total of 28 candidates are in the fray, including former union minister Panabaka Lakshmi from TDP, former Karnataka chief secretary Rathna Prabha of BJP and former MP Chinta Mohan of Congress. Dr.Gurumoorthy is YSRCP candidate.
The counting of votes in Sarvepalli, Gudur, Sullurupeta and Venkatagiri constituencies is underway at DK Government Women s College in Nellore. The counting arrangements have been made at Sri Venkateswara Arts College in Tirupati for Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Satyavedu constituencies of Chittoor district.
Officials have made it clear that those who are taking part in the counting should show either their COVID-19 negative report or should have been administered two doses of vaccine. Mobile phones are not allowed in the counting centres. The election results can be known through EC website or ....

Polling staff and party agents will have to undergo a COVID-19 test and secure a ‘negative’ report in order to enter the centres where counting will be taken up for the byelection conducted to the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency, on May 2.
The staff and agents should have a negative report, apart from a valid identity card, said Collector M. Hari Narayanan, who, along with MCT Commissioner P.S. Gireesha, held a review meeting with the Assistant Returning Officers after participating in a videoconference with Chief Electoral Officer K. Vijayanand. ....
