Lord Browne, the former BP boss, lived with his mother Paula for the last 20 years of her life now he has paid her the ultimate filial tribute by making a £2 million donation to a Cambridge college in her honour.
The generous gift, made by the John Browne Charitable Trust, is to Murray Edwards College for women, enabling it to acquire a building, to be named Paula Browne House, in which undergraduates will both live and be taught.
‘So many people knew my mother, but very few were aware of her story until after she died,’ Lord Browne tells me. ‘This donation is a small way to remember her, in support of an institution with a mission that meant a great deal to her.’ ....

Former Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, has admonished Ghanaians to uphold moral values in the society to help put the country on the path of growth.
She said values such as integrity, honesty and fairness were necessary for cohesive and sustainable nation building.
Mrs Wood who is also a member of the Council of State was speaking at the Annual Conference of Rotary International District 9102 in Accra last Friday. ....

Investigations into Stoke Poges man's death delayed amid concerns over cause of death

An inquest into the death of a man who collapsed at home has been adjourned after concerns were raised about the cause of his death.
Martin Wood, 55, from Stoke Poges, was found dead by his work colleague after he failed to turn up to work on August 19.
Mr Wood, who worked for British Airways, was known to be reliable and punctual so his failure to turn up worried his colleagues and manager, Beaconsfield Coroner’s Court heard last Wednesday (April 7).
In a statement read out to the court, his friend and colleague Yat Kan said: “We realised he [Martin] had not turned up for work. ....
