“When it fell, it fell so dramatically – overnight,” the 41-year-old recalls as we sit in a barn conversion office near the farmhouse in which she was raised. “In our industry, everything [last year] was running right until the very last minute. Then after we cancelled in early March… all of these people lost their work. And a lot of our crew had to get work in deliveries or whatever, but many people weren’t able to find other work.
“Everybody has really struggled, particularly in the arts – because there’s no security as to those [events] ever happening again, frankly. It’s more optimistic now, but from March last year, the feeling was: ‘What am I gonna do?’” ....

Nich Woolf has volunteered to work as a paramedic in Vanuatu, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Haiti.
A paramedic who volunteered for eight months caring for people in one of the world’s most remote communities has called for action to erode stark global health inequalities after being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to emergency medicine and disaster response.
Nich Woolf, who turned 68 on New Year’s Day and is originally from London, had planned to be in Vanuatu – more than 2,000 miles (3,200km) off Australia’s east coast – working with ambulance crews from February to April but was only able to return home in mid-October due to pandemic travel restrictions. ....

Paramedics among Welsh Ambulance Service workers included on New Year's Honours list

FIVE Welsh Ambulance Service workers have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List, it was announced this evening.
Paramedics Nich Woolf and Sharon Thorpe have been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM), while Area Manager Chris Powell has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Meanwhile, Director of Operations Lee Brooks and Ambulance Operations Manager Clare Langshaw have both been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Ambulance Service Medal (QAM).
Chief Executive Jason Killens said: “We’re beyond thrilled that five colleagues have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List, which is testament not just to their contribution through the Covid-19 pandemic but to their broader commitment to the NHS over many years. ....
