$13 million to convention centers and theaters statewide

(ABC 6 News) - DEED announces Over $13 Million in relief grants to convention centers and movie theaters statewide 73 movie theaters in 118 locations and 15 convention centers received awards.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has announced awards of $4.6 million in Convention Center Relief Grants and $8.54 million in Movie Theater Relief Grants to facilities across the state. These grants were part of a $216 million economic relief package signed into law by Governor Tim Walz on Dec. 16, 2020. This package included a $14 million appropriation for grants to movie theaters and convention centers in Minnesota impacted by COVID-19.

The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center emerged Monday as one of the biggest beneficiaries of a Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development relief program when it received news it will be provided with $500,000 in aid. That s the maximum grant possible through the COVID-19 assistance program.
In all, DEED set aside $4.6 million to prop up convention centers across the state, with the DECC in line to garner nearly 11% of that sum.
The Range Recreation and Civic Center in Eveleth was awarded $105,000 through the same program. ....

River’s Edge Convention Center, Local Movie Theatres Awarded Relief Grants
ST. PAUL The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has announced $14 million in relief to convention centers and movie theatres hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds are part of a $216 million economic relief package signed into law by Governor Tim Walz in December. They include $4.6 million in Convention Center Relief Grants and $8.54 million in Movie Theater Relief Grants.
Fifteen convention centers around the state were awarded grants ranging from $38,000 to $500,000. The River’s Edge Convention Center in downtown St. Cloud was awarded $300,000.
Seventy-three movie theater owners – with a total of 790 screens in 118 locations across the state – were awarded grants ranging from $10,000 to $1.12 million. The list includes $740,000 for Marcus Cinemas of Minnesota and Illinois, which includes Parkwood Cinema in Waite Park, and $60,000 for Quarry C ....
