New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) When it comes to the IT and tech industry, only 19 per cent of women working in the sector said they were inspired by a female role model to take up the profession, a new report revealed on Sunday, stressing that the lack of female representation is still a key barrier to achieving a diverse workforce.

The Minister in the Prime Minister s Department (Economic Affairs) said it was important for youths to obtain the right skillset, especially since the country is increasingly focusing on the high-end manufacturing and services sector.
Talents are the key for us to be a competitive nation, as we also want to achieve a high income, inclusive and sustainable economy, he said at the Youth Economic Forum (YEF) 2021 as a panelist for the virtual session titled The Economic Agenda - The World in a Structural Break: A New Direction for Emerging Economies on Friday (March 5).
He noted that as Malaysia embarks on the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP) (from 2021 to 2025), there is much to be done on the technology adoption front. ....

The Marshall Liberal Government has today announced Ms Renee Hindmarsh will be the state’s first South Australian Skills Commissioner.
Ms Hindmarsh will take a leading role in shaping further reform of South Australia’s skills training system through her leadership of both the South Australian Skills Commission and Industry Skills
Councils.
“The appointment of Ms Hindmarsh as Skills Commissioner is the latest step in the Marshall Liberal Government’s reform of skills training to deliver new and growing employment opportunities for
South Australians,” said Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni.
“It is critical that the skills training we provide meets the needs of the businesses and industries that underpin the South Australian economy and the jobs they create. ....

As part of the UK government’s regular and ongoing engagement with the steel industry, Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng today re-established and co-chaired the latest UK Steel Council meeting, with representatives from the 6 major steel companies in the UK, as well as UK Steel, the sector’s trade association, trade unions and the Devolved Administrations in attendance.
The Business Secretary opened the call reiterating the UK government’s commitment to levelling up the country and protecting jobs as we build back better from the pandemic. He noted the newly constituted Steel Council offers the forum for government, industry and trade unions to work in partnership on the shared objective of creating an achievable, long-term plan to support the sector’s transition to a competitive, sustainable and low carbon future. ....
