MALIBU The city of Malibu is inviting all community members to participate in Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 1. The national campaign encourages individuals and organizations to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. During the pandemic, the 2021’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is focused on what residents can do on and around their home to help protect against the threat of wildfires.

Malibu Hires New Fire Safety Liaison

MALIBU Chris Brossard is the new Fire Safety Liaison for the city of Malibu on March 29, 2021. The Fire Safety Liaison was a position created after the 2018 Woolsey Fire in order to protect the residents and enhance the city’s wildfire capabilities.
Brossard is replacing seasoned firefighter Jerry Vandermeulen who will retire after more than 20 years and was part responsible for safety planning after the Woolsey Fire, according to the Malibu Times. Although retiring, Vandermeulen will work for a few weeks with Brossard to ensure a smooth transition.
Brossard’s experience brings “16 seasons as a firefighter with the United State Forest Service (USFS), spending most of his time in the Los Padres National Forest, Ojai Ranger District.” Along with time spent as a Public Information Officer, Incident Communications Technician, and as an Engine Captain in Peru to name a few, according to press release from the city of Malibu. ....

City of Malibu Hires New Fire Safety Liaison

The City of Malibu has hired Chris Brossard to serve as the City’s new Fire Safety Liaison effective Monday, March 29, 2021.
“The Fire Safety Liaison position was created after the devastating 2018 Woolsey Fire to ramp up the City’s efforts to help residents be more prepared for wildfires and enhance the City’s wildfire response capabilities,” said Mayor Mikke Pierson. “I am proud to say that Jerry Vandermeulen has done exactly that, and I look forward to Chris Brossard continuing and expanding this crucial service.”
Chris comes to the City after 16 seasons as a firefighter with the United States Forest Service (USFS), spending most of his time in the Los Padres National Forest, Ojai Ranger District. ....
