Of those, 400 are currently in prison. A force spokesman said it is the police s duty to protect communities - and they do so by working with other agencies to manage the risks posed by violent and sexual offenders who have the potential to cause the most serious harm . The constabulary has issued the following information.
REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS. There are 2380 Registered Sex Offenders in the Avon and Somerset force area, which include 400 currently in prison. The majority of them live in our communities. With proper treatment and supervision, many can live productive and stable lives. Their behaviour is monitored and if they are believed to be at risk for reoffending or do not comply with their licence conditions, they may be returned to prison.

Yesterday, (April 22) at Peterborough Crown Court, Bryan Humphreys, was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for two years.

A man who arranged to meet a teenage boy he contacted on Grindr got a shock when the child actually turned out to be an undercover police officer.
Bryan Humphreys, 55, used the dating app to initiate a sexualised conversation with the ‘boy’, who clearly stated he was 14 years old, on December 11 2019.
He went on to arrange to meet up with the boy on December 22 but instead was arrested at his home in Godmanchester.

A man found with 15,000 indecent images and videos of children – plus a 170 page ‘paedophile manual’ - has been spared jail.

During a search, police seized five electrical items and seven mobile phones.
Analysis of the devices revealed 15,260 indecent images and videos of children.
Of these, 4,528 were category A – the most severe. In addition, 456 images or videos were identified that were classed as either prohibited, extreme or were indicative of a sexual interest in children.
